Save Kid's Clothing Resale, Consignment & Thrift Stores from Closing!
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) as signed into law, attempting to be interpreted and carried forward by an understaffed CPSC, will make it illegal for parents to resell their gently used kid’s gear through any venue, come February 10th.
The broad scope of the complicated law, and it’s interpretation by CPSC has effectively made it illegal for parents to resell their children’s clothing and gear at a garage sale, on eBay, Craig’s List, through consignment stores or annual children’s consignment sales. If donated to a nonprofit like Goodwill or Salvation Army, those organizations can’t legally resell it, as of February 10th. That’s right. Hand-me-down clothing for kid’s age 12 and under will be illegal to resell. It will be a banned hazardous product. The fines of $100,000, potential jail time and label as a felon for violations are stiff.
Without effective venues for parents to pass along their kid’s gently used items where does Congress think this massive amount of consumer product is going to quickly end up? Landfills here it comes!
I'm not sure how many of you feel about the new law waiting to be passed on February 10, but I personally think it is rediculous. I am a mother of 4 young daughters and I have always bought clothes and toys at the resale stores. I cannot afford to go buy brand new clothes for them. Sometimes I am lucky to be able to get clothes from friends or family that is no longer needed by them.My daughters do not mind, they are new clothes to them.
This new bill will cause many small business owners to hve to close their doors. It will make it impossible for families to buy quality clothing for their children at lower prices. Our landfills, that are already full, will be overloaded with clothes that could be used by so many. I think it should be left up to the resale stores to be able to check their incoming clothes and toys and make sure it hasn't been put on the recall lists. It should be up to them to decide on what things they will take, not be against the law for them to take any childrens clothes or toys.
We need everyone to sign the petition to stop this. Please sign, time is of the essence. http://www.rallycongress.com/make-second-hand-kids-clothes-legal-/1471/view_all/MO/12/

A Few Money Saving Ideas
Here are a few things that I do to make our money go a little further. I'm sure most of you have heard of them, but it seems to help us save a little.
We use propane to heat our house and water. So now I was my clothes in cold water. I hang all our clothes to dry on drying racks and only dry the towels. I use less laundry detergient and I also cut our dryer sheets into thirds. This make them last 3 times longer. For the clothes I hang to dry, I use white vinegar as my fabric softner. I just fill my downy liquid ball with the vinegar and throw it in the washer. The vinegar doesn not leave a smell, but still leaves my clothes soft.
I also add water to my dish liquid. I buy the concentrated and them put half into another bottle and mix it with water. This makes it last twice as long.
I use white vinegar and water to clean with. Vingar is very effective in killing most mold, bacteria and germs. Here is a link to see tips for using vinegar http://www.vinegartips.com/cleaning/.
I rarely buy papertowels, we use cloth napkins or wash clothes for most cleaning and drying.
I try to make sure that all the lights are out when we leave a room. I unplug the things we are not using. I have even started lighting candles for added light and warmth.
I put plastic on all our windows and covered them with a comforter to help keep the cold out.
I use coupons from the Sunday paper or print them from different sites on the web. A few sites I recommend for this : www.afullcup.com, www.smartsource.com, and www.coolsavings.com .
I also try to sign up for as many freebies as I can. I love free things. You can try sites such as www.afullcup.com or http://www.twistedbranches.com/.
This is just a few things that I do to help save my family money. I hope they help you as well.
